Max Morey - Burrows
Max Morey-Burrows (b. 1999, London) explores the boundaries between accepted meaning and imagined realities. His work considers the relationship
between humanity’s pursuit of external beauty and its search for the divine, and how these desires find a meeting point through art.
Morey-Burrows views the canvas as a recipient of physical and cognitive environments, with the fabric holding traces of time and events surrounding
the creative process. These traces exist alongside intentional marks exploring self-contained mythologies. As the boundaries between the two blur, the
works reveal a tension between individual will and the environments in which it unfolds.
Drawing on human limitation and its relationship to religious thought, his work embodies a yearning for perfection and comprehension — an aspiration
that remains unfulfilled. The resulting paintings stand as artefacts of a failed transcendence, bound by the hands that made them.
